We@Salmar: working environment and organisational culture

SalMar is one of Norway’s largest producers of farmed salmon, and operates in a highly competitive environment. The management team identified the need to strengthen the interaction between the various parts of the organisation, with the aim of building a stronger organisational culture and improving the overall working environment.
Their workforce consists of highly specialised individuals who are completely dependent on the other links in the production line to deliver high quality in a timely manner. An important objective for project was therefore to identify potential bottlenecks in the production process. Simultaneously, each individual employee needed to gain a better understanding of the big picture and how their work contributed to SalMar’s success.
High demands were placed on both the process and the methods used. It was important to identify what aspects should be optimised in order to ensure the accountability of each individual employee to contribute to organisational change and improvement. Increased focus on commitment and affiliation to SalMar was essential.
The solution was an analogue dialog mat in large format, with clear imagery and design, combined with digital data capture.
The response from employees was increased involvement and a deeper perceived understanding of the various work processes that take place within the company.
SalMar’s management team was left with sufficient data on both what currently fits their standard and what should be improved in the production process and overall working environment, as well as concrete propositions that can further remedy problems and strengthen culture. Additionally, it was clearly identified what areas the management team – at various levels – must focus on and further develop. For more information, contact [email protected].
